Wrap up of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit
January 26 2016 - Kristin McLaren
With the North American International Auto Show in Detroit now over, it is time to look back on some of the coolest reveals of the event! Check out some of our favorites below:
2017 Chrysler Pacifica
We have been expecting a revamp of the Chrysler Town & Country for a little while now. At the NAIAS, however, we discovered something even better! They have not only revamped the minivan, they have also given it a new name! The revised minivan will now be dubbed the Chrysler Pacifica and is full of technology that we have never seen in a minivan before. According to BakersfieldNow, “available features include parallel and perpendicular park assist, adaptive cruise control, around-view camera and forward collision warning.” It will also come standard as an 8-passenger vehicle. We are expecting the Pacifica to arrive in the next couple months, with a Hybrid model to arrive by the end of the year. Keep checking back with Thelen Chrysler!
Volkswagen Tiguan GTE Active
This concept vehicle is making a splash in the rugged, off road ride market. It definitely looks the part and has the components, including a turbocharged, 148 horsepower engine. What really makes this vehicle stand out is the electric motors that are integrated with the transmission! This vehicle is capable of front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, or all-wheel drive operation. One of the coolest features is the ability to choose the best combination of gasoline and electric power based on input from the driver and road conditions. The Tiguan GTE will arrive in the US with available 7 passenger seating as well. Enjoy other features including a 9.2 inch touchscreen that can respond to hand gestures, a head’s up display, and a full set of digital instruments. This infotainment system will support Apple and Android. Keep checking back at Thelen Volkswagen for when it arrives!
Audi h-tron Quattro
Check out this amazing new technology study! Audi has now shown us a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle that includes a forward-thinking piloted driving technology. According to Gismag, “the h-tron concept combines a 110 kW fuel cell stack and a 100 kW-capable batter with two electric motors, one on each axle.” Knowing this, Audi has said that it can reach 62 mph in under seven seconds! Piloted driving is being planned for production in 2017 and will use centered technology from the user’s perspective and will take control during stop-and-go traffic and during self-parking maneuvers.
2017 Honda Ridgeline
After a short hiatus from the market, the new Ridgeline has returned with a surprise – it is now a midsized pickup truck and more traditionally styled than previously. The side wings that were standard are now gone, though the crossover-like front fascia remains, along with the slightly rising bed edge to the cab. It is smaller and lighter than before. Several features have remained in this model that will draw in previous Ridgeline owners, such as the two-way tailgate and in-bed trunk. Both front-wheel and all-wheel drive will be available, which is also new. Honda is aiming for comfort with this model with a spacious interior and many high-end technological features. The engine has been updated as well leading it to have great acceleration and fuel economy. Expect the 2017 Ridgeline to enter our showroom later this year. Keep checking back at Thelen Honda for information!
