With winter comes bad weather, which in turn can make driving complicated if you’re not fully prepared. One thing you can do is find a safer vehicle. Many gently used vehicles can fit not only into your budget, but into your safety feature or AWD needs. Another way you can be prepared is with a winter emergency kit for any situation that is not favorable. Building your own winter emergency kit isn’t hard and it’s fully customizable to what you think would be the most important items. Here are some ideas on what you could add to your kit.
- Reflective blanket (or woolen blanket)
- Flashlight
- Multi-tool (complete with window breaker and knife)
- Mini tool kit (screwdriver, hammer, pliers, wrench)
- Mini first aid kit
- Shelf stable snacks (granola bars, jerky, dried fruit)
- Sand or kitty litter
- Snow shovel
- Standard brush/scraper
- Extra cell phone charger
- Extra warm clothes (i.e. hats, gloves, and even an extra hoodie or sweatshirt)
- Jumper cables
